I have been practicing yoga for many years. I love the way it makes me feel on the inside and on the outside. But, what I love most about it is that it brings me closer to myself in the sense that with every other yoga class I get insights about myself and also feel way more connected to the world around me, its people and Mother Earth than before.
In the last year, I felt the need to do something (even if it is just the tiniest little bit) about my own carbon footprint in this world. Before that, climate change had always been a buzz word to me, but I was never truly aware of the huge challenge ahead of our planet and the crucial moment in time we are in.
The Our Planet series on Netflix was another eye-opener for me. Of course politics and governments play a crucial role in setting up a framework for the economy and society to attempt to avoid the 2 degree Celsius rise by 2035.
The data often makes me feel anxious and overwhelmed, especially when I look into ways I can reduce my own carbon footprint.
But there is hope and there is good news! If you have a yogic lifestyle you can contribute not just to a healthier you but also to a healthier planet in a myriad of ways:
These are the areas in which you can become a yogic climate hero:
– Travel by bike, foot or electric car and limit air travel as much as you can
– Eat a seasonal and plant-based diet
– Invest in a renewable home
– Reduce, reuse and recycle goods as much as you can
If you are into yoga, it is likely that you live a lifestyle with a focus on healthy, green eating and mindful travel already.
With love and light from me to you,
Johanna
